Habitat Iredell does not build houses FOR families; we facilitate a partnership among families who demonstrate need, the ability to pay the mortgage, and a willingness to partner in the construction of their home.

This partnership also engages community supporters
who join the families in the home building process.

We are committed to working with partner families to insure that the experience of long term home ownership is positive and successful.

Our Partner Families are amazing people committed to working hard to achieve the dream of purchasing and owning their own home. Each home has a story; each home has touched the lives of many people. We are excited about the opportunity to work with new families and look forward to all the new stories waiting to be written.

Habitat builds houses along with families who demonstrate the ability to pay a zero-interest monthly mortgage, and also a willingness to partner with Habitat. All applicants are required to undergo credit checks, as well as background checks.

Once their application is approved, a family must work 300 to 500 hours of 'sweat equity' and also attend classes that prepare them for homeownership. Homeowners also pay a $500.00 downpayment and $500.00 closing costs for their home.

Once the homeowner family completes their sweat equity hours and the house is complete, they are considered to be official Habitat homeowners and they begin making monthly payments on their interest-free mortgage.
